ON A FACULTY COURSE YOU ARE A CLASS OF YOUR OWN
Personal individual attention is the secret.
On a FACULTY course, studying at home or any location you may be located, in your own time, at your own pace, you are the only student that matters. You’re your tutor, who is devoted to your individual progress.
The first, vital step is that moment when you mail or email your enrollment and then set off on your course to a study for your qualification. From then on, your personal tutor, instructor and mentor is as near as the nearest mail box or your inbox via email.
You’ll receive, then, everything you’ll need for the course. Many courses are self-contained and require no additional materials other than those provided. But for those that do, we will provide all materials or additional material information you may need to obtain this materials. Everything we provide is yours to keep and there are no “hidden” extras. You can then settle down to study at your own pace, in your own time, your own learning method, your own chosen course.
When you have completed your assignments or after you have completed your requested exam paper, you need to mail or email your work for marking to the Faculty. Immediately when it is received, it is handed to our personal, individual tutor or mentor for scrutiny. Step by step he’ll evaluate your answers, mark your papers and return your results to you be means of a grade report. Your student file is updated with your progress and a copy is sent to you for your personal record. And don’t forget, you can ask your tutor or mentor as many questions as you wish. You don’t have to worry about what other students think. Your advance is followed not only by your own tutor, or lecturer but by a team of assessors, who take a keen interest and who will advise you wherever you feel necessary and develop ways to give you any extra help you may need.
The results of your submitted work after they came back to you, will indicate exactly your progress. You can decide on how you wish to proceed to ensure you make progress based on the comments and remarks from your tutor, lecturer or mentor.
At the end of the course you will have reached the standard necessary to qualify for your FACULTY certificate and or diploma, or you will have passed your chosen examination.
And there it is solid, impressive evidence of your achievements.

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING THROUGH THE FACULTY BY DISTANCE LEARNING
Many people recognize that, to enter more profitable and interesting fields of work, they need a special kind of education. But not everyone is able to attend college or find suitable evening classes. Few can afford to give up their jobs – and many have already started in their chosen vocations but require technical training for advancement or pay increases.
For such persons, distance education instruction is often the best and possibly the only alternative educational route to self-improvement. Therefore it has become a considerable force in adult education in today’s educational environment. Nowhere are the advantages of the method more strikingly demonstrated than in the Faculty’s approach and proven record of student success.
Our system is simple – and it works. The materials we use are textbooks, study guides, prepared examinations and assignments with where required, practical fieldwork to complete. Our contact with students is via email, mail communications or by phone. We also arrange for scheduled meetings with students at regular intervals to ensure they are able to master each study area of their courses.
Distance education courses offer a valuable method or training alternative to those who, for some reason or other, are not able to attend part or full-time classes or who may prefer to study be distance education.
Today this form of instruction must be regarded as an integral part of the whole education pattern in the world at large.
Technical training by distance education is available to students in the following engineering and technological fields:-
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Civil and Structural Engineering
- Building and Architecture
- Draughtsmanship and Drafting
- Engineering Design
- Business and Management Disciplines
- Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering
- Machinery Technology and Design
- Production and Industrial Technology
- Etc
It is available to persons employed as or planning to qualify as:-
- Artisans
- Draughtsman and designers
- Technicians
- Engineers
- Technologists and Specialists
- Production administrators
- Work study officers
- Estimators.
- Costing and clerks
- Inspectors and clerks of works
- Etc
Artisans
Persons usually commence their practical training as apprentices. Persons who can satisfy the Registrar of Apprentices that they have gained experience and training of a nature and that for a total period, which in the Registrar’s opinion is adequate may apply for and be admitted to a trade test. This period will be reduced for persons who qualify for a particular trade by providing a certificate of technical training in that particular vocation. Many tradesmen have completed their technical training and have passed the trades test but have not completed their theoretical training. These persons may require special training such as one or more of our vocational type of programs for promotion and job satisfaction.
Draughtsman and Designers
There are many positions in the technical and engineering field which do not require the completion of a contract under apprenticeship. Persons employed in a drawing office, for instance, may have to do a pupilage for a few years and may also enroll for a particular program such those listed in this brochure.
Technicians
Usually the technician is a person such as an artisan (not a necessarily compulsory requirement) who is already qualified in a particular trade but who have studied further beyond the usual introductory qualification and obtained a certificate level or at diploma level qualification in addition to the usual artisan academic credential. Technicians have obtained suitable technical education that equips them to be able to work independently or under the guidance of engineers and technologists where they are an interface between the artisan and engineer. The technician is well trained and qualified to ensure that the system, process and design of a particular device, machine, or equipment will work. The technician has the skills to do the same work as the artisan and has the capability to oversee more advanced level technical work at a higher intellectual level as an in-between for the artisan to the advanced engineering work for the technologist and engineer.
Technologists
These persons are trained beyond the minimum technical education level required for technicians with special skills and knowledge obtained through research and the development in a particular industrial and engineering environment. They are referred to as Technologists, Incorporated engineers and can register under the professional engineer’s registration act applicable to them as “semi-professional engineers”. The Faculty has specially developed programs that will enable our students or members to register as professional engineers or Incorporated engineers.
Engineers
Although the engineering profession at the professional engineer level is well protected and usually the training is only recognized through traditional campus learning or similarly approved recognized academic programs. The Faculty has many programs that are equivalent to an engineering degree at the bachelors and graduate and postgraduate degree level. We have agreements in place with accredited universities to ensure our members and graduates will be able graduate with a recognized degree that will enable them to apply for professional registration provided they meet the basic requirements applicable to the relative grade of registration.
Allied Positions
Many persons with no technical experience or qualified tradesmen obtain positions in the technical fields in the production administration departments in engineering concerns and in industry in general. Those who have passed the matriculation (high School) level diploma examination will be eligible for further study and the completion of a particular course that will allow them to advance further with promotion in their careers.
